About Houseboats

The surreal tropical beauty of Kerala - a land blessed with intricate networks of canals, rivers and lakes, an estimated 900 km navigable waterway system - can be best experienced only with a houseboat. The houseboat (rice boat), which in the olden days was used to transport goods, has made a powerful comeback as a much preferred tourist attraction. Today, these colossal crafts have adapted to suit the luxury and comfort, akin to that of a fully furnished penthouse. A typical houseboat may stretch to a length of 60-80 feet and comes equipped with bath-attached rooms, open lounge, deck, kitchen and a crew comprising of two oarsmen and a cook. Come and enjoy the spectacular vistas of Kerala unfolding before your eyes, as you lazily cruise along the labyrinthine backwaters in a traditional houseboat
